About Teak

Teak is a close-grained hardwood with a high natural oil content. This makes teak highly resistant to rotting and almost impervious to the effects of sun, rain, frost or snow. These characteristics combine to make it a very popular and practical timber for all outdoor applications. There is no substitute for teakand no other hardwood performs to the same degree as teak in outdoor conditions.

Does your teak furniture require assembly?

Most pieces of teak furniture are supplied either fully assembled or flat-packed in sub-assemblies to minimize the amount of final assembly required. All flat-packed items come complete with a pack of fittings detailed. Due to design and the accuracy of the construction of our teak, no glue is required when assembling the products, only the dowels and/or bolts supplied in the fittings pack. In most cases, your furniture can be assembled within a few minutes by a single person with minimal tools.

What do I need to know about selecting teak?

Only select premium-grade, mature teakof consistent quality, which includes a straight grain structure, the absence of knots, splits or cracks, and an even overall color. Always look for teak from sustainable plantations in Indonesia. Darker teak wood, or what is sometimes called ‘sap wood’ generally is of a lower grade and varies widely in color and consistency.

Will minor / random cracks appear on my teak furniture?

Teak wood is a natural material and, as such, fine cracks in the end grain of components, e.g. legs and arms, may appear and then disappear with changes in the weather and the consequent change in the moisture content of the wood. Such fine cracks are normal, especially in heavier components, and will not affect the life or serviceability of your furniture.

When will I need to clean my teak furniture?

Teakdoes not require any special maintenance routine apart from occasional cleaning. If left to age naturally outside by being exposed to light, air and rain, the surface of the teakwill gradually change to a soft, silver-grey as the pigments in the outermost surface layer of the wood start to fade away. We recommend that you simply allow your furniture to weather naturally this way and maintain the silver patina with regular, gentle cleaning with soft-soap flakes dissolved in warm water.

Does your teak furniture carry a warranty?

Yes, we warrant that our teak furniture is fit for its intended, reasonable use as specified from the manufacturer. (See each piece for details.) We also warrant that our products are free from defective materials and workmanship. To make a warranty claim, please contact our customer service department.

Can I keep my teak furniture outside year round?

Yes, teak furniture can be kept outside all year around. Of course, any furniture left outside all year can get dirty, however the long-term performance and durability of teak furniture is no different. Some customers choose to store their teak furniture indoors during the winter to avoid this. It is recommended that you do not move your teak furniture from an outdoor setting directly to a heated indoor room for storage, as the differences in temperature and humidity can cause the wood to split.
